The Best Senior Pictures Don’t Copy Pinterest
Let’s start with a little confession.
I love Pinterest.
It’s full of beautiful locations, outfit ideas, and creative inspiration.
But…
Somewhere along the way, I think Pinterest accidentally convinced a lot of seniors that they should try to recreate someone else’s session.
Here’s the thing.
Your senior pictures shouldn’t look like someone else’s.
They should look like you.
The goal isn’t to copy a pose.
It’s to tell your story.
Here are some of my favorite ways to do exactly that.
1. Choose a Location That Means Something
A beautiful location is great.
A meaningful location is even better.
Maybe it’s:
- your favorite coffee shop
- the baseball field where you’ve spent countless evenings
- downtown Blue Springs
- a park you’ve always loved
- your family’s property
- your horse barn
- your dance studio
Years from now, those places will mean even more than they do today.
2. Bring Your Dog
If you’ve talked to me for more than five minutes…
You probably knew this one was coming. 🐾
Pets have a way of bringing out genuine smiles that can’t be posed.
Plus, if they’ve been part of your high school years, they deserve to be part of the story too.

3. Show Off Your Passion
Your senior session doesn’t have to revolve around sports or activities.
But don’t be afraid to include them.
Bring:
- your guitar
- ballet shoes
- football
- paint brushes
- camera
- books
- fishing pole
The goal isn’t to create a sports poster.
It’s to celebrate what you love.

4. Wear Clothes That Feel Like You
The best outfit isn’t always the trendiest one.
It’s the one you feel amazing wearing.
Choose clothes that fit your personality, not someone else’s Instagram feed.
Because confidence always photographs better than fashion trends.
5. Mix Casual and Dressy
One of my favorite combinations is:
A relaxed everyday outfit.
Something a little dressier.
And one outfit that’s just plain fun.
That variety tells a much more complete story.
6. Include Your Future
Headed to Mizzou?
K-State?
KU?
Trade school?
The military?
Starting your own business?
Bring a sweatshirt, pennant, or letter.
It’s a fun way to celebrate where you’re headed without making your entire session about it.

7. Bring Something Unexpected
Some of my favorite sessions have included things I never would’ve thought of.
Vintage trucks.
Grandpa’s tractor.
A kayak.
Roller skates.
A hammock.
If it makes you smile, let’s talk about including it.
8. Don’t Worry About Posing
One of the biggest myths is that you need to know what you’re doing.
You don’t.
Seriously.
If you’ve never modeled before…
Perfect.
I’ll guide you through every pose, every movement, and every expression.
Your only job is to show up ready to have fun.

9. Leave Room for the Unplanned
Some of my clients’ favorite images weren’t on the shot list.
They happened because…
The wind caught your hair.
Your dog did something goofy.
You couldn’t stop laughing.
Those little in-between moments often become the photographs you’ll treasure most.
10. Remember What These Pictures Are Really About
Years from now…
No one is going to ask if your outfit was trending in 2027.
They’re going to smile because they remember your laugh.
Your personality.
Your excitement.
Your dreams.
That’s why I always encourage seniors to make their session personal.
The more it feels like you today…
The more meaningful it will become tomorrow.
